Tallahassee, FL – April 5, 2011 – Tallahassee’s 1st Fashion Week will occur during the week of April    18-22, with fashion based events and week closing runway at the Leon County Civic Center beginning at 7:30pm, hosted by The Good News Show anchor and Ms. Capital City USA, Kristen Ledlow.
Tallahassee Fashion Week (TFW) is a partnership of fashion professionals utilizing the influence of fashion, entertainment and culture to promote global diversity, increase economic development in Tallahassee, providing a platform for designer merchandising and modeling opportunities.

The week begins with a Fashion Industry Panel featuring Marsha Doll (model agent), Randi Buchanan (makeup artist), Kelly Currier (nutrition), LaShunda White (fashion stylist) and other local aesthetic professionals to discuss the current trends, tips and staples in all things fashion.  “We want to add to the fashion scene and growing metropolitan feel of Tallahassee,” states MeShun Vann, creator of TFW. “I want to extend opportunities for experience to the upcoming creative innovators.”

The runway will be only one night this year, but it will be spectacular – Hennes & Mauritz (H&M), BCBG Max Azria, Route 66, Bella Donna and more will be featured at the inaugural show. The models are students from Florida A&M University, Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College.  “We aim for TFW to be the F.A.C.E. of Tallahassee – fashion, arts, cultural diversity and entertainment. We are overjoyed to make this presentation to the city” states Vann.

Monetary contributions will be made to The Council of Culture and Arts (COCA) and The Makeva Harold Foundation.

It's not what you know it's who you know!

I know you have heard the saying "it's not what you know all the time, but it's who you know".  Right? Right!  Tonight on MLK Day I attended a free networking event here in Tallahassee, FL.  The event is called the Strictly Business Networking Mixer set up by Karen Randolph.  Ms. Randolph started Strictly Business Tallahassee on a ning network but then recently moved the group over to Facebook in 2010.  Ms. Randolph then felt that business owners and business professionals should get away from the computer and meet face-to-face so she started coordinating the Networking Mixers.

Today I met many business owners, entrepreneurs and business professionals I wouldn't necessarily meet.  There was Kent from Florida Boy Customs who does car and home audio, there was Tony Miller from the Tallahassee Grapevine (online magazine network), realtors, massage therapist, event planners and more!

It was exciting to meet some local faces that I can use for future ventures.  There were over 3 businesses that specialized in marketing!  While I enjoyed my drink from the bar (my only expense) I mixed and mingled with business owners who were eager to share their business ideas and tips with me!

This event is where you want to be if you are a business owner or business professional that lives, work or shop in Tallahassee and its surrounding areas!

Join the Strictly Business Tallahassee group online on Facebook and be sure to check out the monthly Networking Mixers every 3rd Monday at the Aloft Hotel Downtown Tallahassee at 6 p.m.!  Be sure to bring plenty of business cards...you may run out!  Oh, all drinks at the bar are 1/2 off until 7 p.m.!
